Did srini die due to medical negligence by doctors at Malar hospitals? We want to know the truth.

Update: – Please see the previous post below for all the investigation reports.

As friends and colleagues of PT Srini you may know that he is no longer with us.

Knowing him closely for 15 years as my best friend, I know that if he were alive, he would have wanted to know what really happened to him so that others do not suffer this. So, I am writing to let you know what happened in the last few days leading to this tragedy.

PT Srinivasan had always been active and energetic person full of life. At any given time, you can see him making someone laugh.

Wednesday, 31 October

Due to severe abdominal pain, Srini along with this family went to Malar hospital for treatment. The doctor said it could be because of food irritation and asked Srini to undergo USG sonogram. The test showed renal cysts, later found to be not a major problem. So they took the USG results to an urologist who asked him not to worry about the cyst and referred Dr Murali, a Gastroenterologist for the abdominal pain investigation.

Please see the previous post below for all the investigation reports.

Nov 1, Thursday

On Thursday, Srini went to office as usual but had abdomen pain on and off. In the evening, they went to see Murali, the Gastroenterologist for the abdominal pain investigation. After listening to Srini’s symptoms he too suspected it as gastric problem and asked Srini to take pain killer injections at Malar hospital. And if the pain didn’t subside the doctor asked him to get admitted at Malar hospitals. The doctor also left a note on the prescription that he will not be available on 1st Nov and will be back in town only on that evening. So, they went to Malar hospitals, and took the painkillers as advised by Dr. Murali. Then they came back home.

Nov 2, Friday

At 1 am on Nov 1, since the pain didn’t subside, Srini was admitted at Malar hospital as suggested by Dr Murali. Between 1 am and 5 am he was given 4 pain killers. And just the previous night he was given one. Only after 5 am he slept for one hour. At 6 am blood tests were done. (see test reports attached)

I was with him from 12 noon to 2:30 pm. We were chatting for 30 mins – he seemed ok and talked as usual. He slept at 1 pm and woke up at 2:30 to have the veg soup. I left at 2:30 pm. He didn’t seem to have any pain since Friday morning. At 3 pm he had slight pain in the abdomen. At 7 pm he had some juice.
10 pm – His aunt was with him. According to his aunt, he was restless, had back pain and had sweating in the head. She complained to the duty nurse ,who  in turn just passed it off saying it could be because of the AC which was switched off. (Since it was the post-cyclone (Nilam) day the weather was not hot; at midnight the weather was also chill there is no logic in what the nurse said sweat because of A/C.)

11 pm – Shoulder pain.
11:30-00:30 – Restless, walking
00:45 – Motion problem

Nov 3, Saturday.

6 am – prepared the wrist for IV (reason not known). Blood given for tests
7 am – had tender coconut. Feeling slightly better
8:30 am – ECG done – which according to the doctor was normal.( It is said incase of gas problem ECG reading would not be accurate and would not show a proper cardiac issue in case of any.
9 am – signed the form for endoscopy (is this common?) And with the symptoms of sweat and pain in upper limb is it not necessary a complete examination to be done by the shift / Specialist to check all records before doing endoscopy.

10 am – Aparna was with him. He seemed to be little worried and restless.

At 12:30 noon on Nov 3, I spoke to him over the phone as he was getting ready for endoscopy. He said, he has slight pain in the abdomen and shoulders (Cause of concern) and he was getting ready for endoscopy.

1 pm – He walked in to the endoscopy room, Aparna waiting outside. Within 5 minutes Aparna heard someone screaming from the room “where’s the emergency kit?” Only after the third shout, someone fetched the kit. Then after few mins someone called for anesthetist.( should the endoscopy lab not be equipped with the emergency kits?)

1:30 pm – As I was getting ready to leave to the hospital I got a call from Aparna there is an emergency and asked me to come to hospital immediately. When I reached the hospital at 2ish Aparna said Srini has had cardiac arrest. We were waiting outside the ICU. I could see from the outside of ICU a team of doctors and paramedics trying to revive the heart through resuscitation.

Please see the previous post below for all the investigation reports.

At around 2:30 the doctor came out and asked his parents:

Doctor – Did he have any complaint of fever or chest pain recently?
Parents and wife: No
Doctor – Does he have hypertension or diabetes ( I wonder how the doctors in the ICU are not without his case sheets and asks the parents when the patient is in ICU)
Parents and wife – No, he didn’t have any of those and was a healthy person.
Doctor – His heart is not responding we are trying our best.

After 15 mins the doctor called his father and a relative and told that they are trying to revive the heart for the past 1 hour and the heart is not responding. And the doctor said this is because he has a rarest form of viral infection which affects the heart and because of that the heart doesn’t pump. And after few mins the doctor said he is no more.

As friends and colleagues you may know that he was healthy and was one of the most energetic guy you could see.

Here are some nagging questions:

1. Why did the gastroenterologist took so long to do an endoscopy – he was admitted to hospital on the night of Nov 1, but was taken to endoscopy only on Nov 3rd afternoon.
2) What were the medicines given between this time?
3) Didn’t the blood test results and ECG indicate anything abnormal? If yes, was any medication given? If no a person having gastric issue will the ECG provide correct readings.

3) When complained of shoulders upper limb pain along with sweat which was informed to the Duty nurse why the same was not informed to the Duty doctor and checked/ examined by the doctor then and there.

4) Was this observation informed to the concern doctor ( Mr.Murali who has suggested for an the endoscopy)

5) Were the symptoms (a mild cardiac arrest) taken in to consideration before the doing endoscopy.

6) How can the doctors just seconds after he passed away say that it was because of viral infection? Were there any tests to confirm this? According to the death certificate the reason of death is Viral Myopericarditis

7) If he had viral infection why it was not diagnosed properly?

Looks like there are several lapses in the process and it looks like he died either because of the pain killers or he was not diagnosed properly.

The hospital owes us an explanation of his treatment. If you have any other details please inform us through comments as it will help us to know what really happened.

The family, including his wife and three little kids are shocked and devastated by this loss. No words can console them.

Please see the previous post below for all the investigation reports.

I am first of all shocked to hear about PTS’s demise…. It is really shocking and deeply saddening…I am very much confused by the events unfolded during the last few hours before he is no more.. I personally, do not understand the details that are given with a lot of Medical jargon in it.. But i can question a few other things that have not been strongly, emotionally and sequentially registered here, but from whatever i read here….
Firstly, what did the doctors do to a patient who “WALKED IN” for the endoscopy, whereby, he had to be brought out as “NO MORE”???? Lots of steps and procedures need to be explained & examined to answer this question..
Secondly, Why was there a scream, requesting for the “Emergency Kit” and then a call for an Anesthetist? I would like to understand the requirement of Emergency Kit and an Anesthetist……for what and for why??? This again needs an explanation from people with heart and not with brains….preferably from a lower cadre in the endoscopy room…… and the other question which was already raised with regard to its absence in the Endoscopy room.. Should a hospital, of Malar’s standards AS THEY CLAIM, not have these kits in place as a SOP ???
Thirdly, After seeing all the questions raised, with regard to the suspicious approach of the Staff as well as Doctors, why not a legal proceeding be initiated, whereby the bridge is established between, one, the Medical Jargon and its repercussion, Two, the tracking/recording of sequential eventualities from various sources of presentees on that day in Hospital along with the records, and three, the Questions that are raised as well that would be arising during the course of the above actions, establishing the facts..

I may sound emotional, but i think i have got all the rights to feel so, when i hear the new of the loss of a fantastic friend like PTS with whom, i had enjoyed every moment during my tenure with F&S. I strongly feel that the Management of Malar hospital owes a response with clear conscience and hear the aftermath music of it as well.. I, as a true Frostie and a friend of PTS, would like to be a part of this drive for “explanation from Malar”

I am really shocked to hear this. I feel its definitely due to the hospitals negligence. Because as far as I know when you said they gave 4 pain killers in 5 hrs I was shocked. Whatever the dosage might have been, but its very dangerous to give too much of painkiller with in a short period of time. Even for oral dosage of pain killers its recommend to take at a interval of 4 hrs between each dosage. As one of the disadvantage of taking too much of painkillers most important thing that I have read is that it slows down the ‘heart rate and it might even cause blood clot and even cause a heart attack’. I hope the family copes up from his loss. I could see thousands of dreams in his eyes in the pic with his children 😦 I seriously think they should sue the hospital how careless could they be ?. My prayers are always with his family.

      Dear Senthil Ji

Thanks for your Info, but what is the reason behind to receive the body with out doing clear investigation in the spot

because now a days most of the violence by worst people are happening due to the silence of Good people

if your people would have forced them on the spot, it will be very easy for everyone to get alert

don’t mistake me its my feelings, since i am a social worker its giving lot of pain

because we had same issues in GKNM – coimbatore for the 4years old child, she passed away due to delay in Doctors response in the name of Advance payable. after 7hrs finally the hospital settled 5lakhs on the spot for the issue unofficially to secure their family. since they were very poor both the side there is no unwanted discussions and closed also.

Now a days law is very strict against Medical issues, during this kind of situation if you need any third party investigation pls force the hospital and the facility is provided by Medical Council or you can approach court.
They will nominate the people and verify the medicine property and its impact to the patient apart from this what are the issues were occurred during that period every thing they will analysis and submit the report.

in Sini case i feel its over dosage or issues like Appendix would have busted.

      My Humble request to all,
      1. if you are not happy while taking the treatment please try to get second opinion with other doctors before doing any admission.
      2. if you need and clarification or settlement please do the activity in the spot otherwise this kind of issues will disappear like a black spot,
      3. after admission if you r not happy with the condition of patient, u can force the hospital to submit the medicine report for third party discussion, if
the hospital refuses u can register the compliant in nearest police station.

Note : while reading the above if you feel anything bad i am so sorry, because now we can’t get back the life but if we would have collected some settlement from the hospital on the spot it would have been served his family as relief fund

i request you all to create a association for collecting some nominal fund every month or one time fund /year for their children’s education, apart from this try to make frequent visit along with family so that the children can get relief and his wife will get relax after meeting us in the name of My brother and sisters are very great.

Through research, I found that there is a 1% chance of cardiac arrest during endoscopic procedures. Not sure if balloon trocars were used here. The study says, “Severe vagal reaction triggered by manipulation of pelvic structures or nerves by the insufflated balloon trocar resulted in asystolic cardiac arrest in three patients. The life-threatening nature of this phenomenon should be understood by all anesthesiologists and urologists engaged in laparoscopic (endoscopic) procedures.” This should have been anticipated by the Endoscopic Surgeon and made proactive arrangements.

Hello. First of all, my sincere condolenses for the family and friends. What I read here is just really really sad. One really important reason that we have to take what you have written seriously is that every single point that has been written here sounds absolutely unbiased.. Some of the questions you ask here are absolutely valid. This is nothing more than medical negligence. But recently I have had some major health issues in my family including my little one… In all of the exeperiences, it is either by fate or by chance that we have all come out of the problems… I have seen and felt medical negligence at every step. I did a master medical check up for my dad at Malar. according to my dad’s assessment (as I did not go there), the whole medical check up was nothing more than a interview and paper documentation than any tests… It is absolutely disappointing… Health care industry is no more than a lucrative business.

When this results in a loss of life, particularly in the case of Srini here, it is just heart breaking… I mean just look at the pic with his children… So much promise and hope and all of that has been shattered by just some negligent action… Once again, I will keep his family and friends in my prayers and I will share this message along.

Fortis Malar Hospital is one of the worst hospital i have ever come across…had very bad experience…when Yegnesh was took there for a fracture…doctor was demanding 1.5 lacs for treating a fracture. He started bargaining with me and he came down slowly till 60 thousand..then we said that we are about to get him discharged..they demanded 16K for first aid they performed…they don’t even have any experienced doctors with them..as i was able to see…really felt very bad on seeing the photograph posted with his daughters….RIP PT

Not just a little sarcastic ,a lot. Its so frustrating that we go to doctors like him, who treat patients like we are complete idiots. So in this case ,are they saying Endo was not an unwanted test after all . And probably an less invasive MRI would have been an utter waste in his terms i guess. if not having a emergency resuscitation kit in an procedure room with a procedure that has a mortality rate ,then what is ?

My mother also underwent gastro endoscopy, high risk procedure for cardiac patients at CMC vellore. But Drs. prepared her well, I mean she is diabetic for 15+ years, kidney patient and had cardiac arrest recently during gastro endo time. Drs (Dr. Thomas, MICU CMC, Dr. Benny, geriatric CMC ) also with group of other specialist like cardiac , hematologist , anesthetist and gastroenterologist consulted and did this gastro endo procedure. Initially doctors advised that, there are lean chances that my mother would survive. But CMC Panel of doctors tried their best with their maximum efforts by consulting all leading specialist and they did this procedure. Yes, gastroendoscopy would be fatal for cardiac patients, if a patient complains about sweat, shooting chest pain spreading left side shoulders, arms, doctors usually do echo to find out EF and also do blood test to see cardiac enzymes level , and they see whether patient can withstand endoscopy. What doctors counselled us before endoscopy was , see, “your mother recently had heart attack, with minimum renal out put due to which lot of water accumulation in lungs, hence mother was on complete ventilation, while inserting tube for endoscopy, there are chances that she would have one more cardiac arrest, if that is the case it would be fatal. Also after endoscopy she should be out of anesthesia without leading to critical situation , sometimes lead to pulmonary infection, but if she is not undergoing endoscopy , they would not stop bleeding in the intestine and that also would result in fatal.”.Doctors efforts and prayers saved her., Hence Doctors should be on foot for high risk patients, which was not there when they treating PT Srini ,

Praying almighty to give strength and courage to his family !!

My sincere condolences to the bereaved family. Our family had a similar experience when we admitted my grandfather to Fortis Malar. He was a very healthy person and he was admitted in Malar for abdominal pain and drowsiness. The doctors completely neglected the cause of pain and said that he was drowsy because of electrolyte imbalance and treated for the same. Once his electrolyte levels were restored, they gave antibiotics for abdominal pain, but there were no signs of subsidence of pain and he got drowsy again. They again doubted the electrolyte imbalance to be the cause and dint bother about the pain at all. Then they scanned the abdomen and doubted the infection of the gall bladder. By the time they did an ultrasonography of his abdomen, he was already in the ICU. Then his pulse began to fluctuate and the docs said that any further treatment could be given only after his condition stabilizes. The subsequent day, he was put on ventilator support and the docs wanted to monitor his condition for 48 hrs, with the highest dose of antibiotcs available, given intra venously. His condition improved and was back in the ICU, which is when his ESR level was checked and found to be brought within the range (ESR was above 20,000 when he was initially admitted in the ICU). Since his ESR was within the range, he was back in the ward, and was given mild antibiotics. He was quite active for 2 days in the ward and again he fell drowsy and complained of abdominal pain and the doctors did not know the reason!! They said that he was PROBABLY drowsy due to old age and gave us all PERMUTATIONS AND COMBINATIONS to convince us with the reason for his drowsiness! They did not check the ESR rate for another 12 days, though he was totally drowsy and complaied of pain. They again took him to the ICU and after my father asked the doctor if he checked ESR count, the doctor was like “yeah, we will be checking today”. The docs there need a layman to remind them to take tests!!! When my grandpas condition deteriorated, they said they would remove his gall bladder IF WE WANTED, and that the chances of his survival are bleak. They wanted us to decide and we decided to shift him to Apollo as our last resort. And he was in Apollo for a couple of days, where he passed away due to severe infection of the abdomen. He for sure would have survived, had we admitted him in apollo initially! MALAR IS THE WORST HOSPITAL AND ALL THEY NEED IS MONEY! This happened 2 months ago, precisely in August 2012.

    Dear Senthil,

Do not let Malar Hospital go off the hook. It clearly shows that they have been extremely negligent in PTs case. And reading experience from others, it only testifies their ignorance. The thought that PT is no more with us because of extremely careless nature of the medical experts is simply shocking. And its just not in Malar..it is happening in so many hospitals. I wonder how people could recruit nurses who cant tell the difference between sweating cause of heat and sickness. That is absolutely unacceptable. Though we cannot bring our dear PT back, the least we could do is to ensure that those who were responsible behind his sudden demise are brought to justice. We surely do not want such a case to be repeated again in the future to some other wonderful soul.

Hospitals like Malar are heading toward corporate culture. The Doctors are under Pressure to generate revenue in line with the Money they get paid as their Salary. If a Doctor is getting a salary of 2.5 Lakh PM he is expected to bring in 25 Lakh PM back to the Revenue this has to come from the poor patients. There is no Service oriented Hospitals in Chennai all are running behind money the reason for the Hospital to say this is they have a huge 24/7 serving workforce and sky rocketing Electricity Bill, They have Medial Rep’s who they give them Gifts/perks/favor’s so that they will be recommend their Brand to the patients and so many other things which they are liable to Pay. This is made them to become Greedy and pull out as much as possible from their patients. Most of the Drugs which they use are absolutely unwanted stuff. Which in turn will trigger unwanted things like what has happened to Srini

I would request the Medical community to please show the human face to the mankind and stop treating the Patients as a milking Cow. Srini is the only cases lots of people are in the same boat and unheard so many time.

Please do take note of this and kindly save the valuable Life.

A letter from a doctor, after seeing the investigation reports and ECG.

    Dear Senthil,

I am so sorry for you loss and hope that my points below can help in anyway. It must be a very difficult time for everybody and please give my condolences to his family.

Here are some of my thoughts and areas where I think you could have a case.

    1) What were they doing to further investigate and treat the nephritis that PT Srini had
    – In one of the reports is stated that a nephrologist thought he had intersitial nephritis, was this proven and did they start any form of treatment for this (I can’t find anything to indicate they did)
    – Usually they do further tests on the urine to look for things like cast cells or complement proteins (C3/C4)

    2) Why was the patient’s chest pain not adequately addressed
    – This is probably one of the most important points in the case. Anybody with chest pain accompanied by shoulder pain and sweating should be investigated to exclude cardiac problems and should not just be given pain medication
    – This is generally done with an immedicate ECG, administering of proper medication such as a glycerel trinitrate and blood tests to check for cardiac enzymes

    3) Was the doctor performing the endoscopy aware that the patient had these symptoms earlier that morning

    4) Why was an endoscopy done which is an invasive test with potential complications when less invasive safer tests were not done before such as a CT scan
    – Furthermore, there seems to be a discrepancy about what actually happened and what was reported which needs to be noted
    – The reports says this test was never performed but reports have claimed that they did actually start the procedure

    5) What was the evidence behind the final diagnosis of viral myopercarditis as the cause of death? I don’t see any reports or physical examination findings which would lead me to support this diagnosis
    – There is an echocardiography report which shows that the patient had evidence of a pericardial effusion which is fluid around the heart. However, this can be a consequence of the cardiorespiratory arrest that the patient had as well as a potential side effect from the nephritic syndrome due to hypoalbuminaemia and oedema
    – Furthermore, they stated that his ECG was normal, viral myopericarditis would give an abnormal ECG with what’s known as concave ST elevations with T wave inversions. This makes their diagnosis even more improbable

    Hi Senthil,
I don’t have words to express/console the family as I had experienced (I lost my elder brother in a road accident ten years back) the pain and knew how deep it hurts the other family members when you lose the bread winner of the family.

The reason for my post was, when I was with Nittany, one of our colleague was admitted in to Malar Hospital (before Fortis acquisition) after met with an accident. We heard that he had brought dead when they brought him to the hospital. The sad part was when the parents were searing for the body and the body was kept on an ambulance which was parked on the parking lot and not even kept inside the hospital. After a long search they found the body it seems. I am not sure how much they paid to take the body out of the hospital.

My condolence to the family and friends. Having read many of the communications, I firmly believe that the entire Medical team DID NOT know what they were doing. Signs and symptoms direct towards a heart problem than abdominal. Cardiac issues can be a dissecting aneurysm of the major blood vessels, major myocardial infarct ( Heart attack) etc. Endoscopy was indicated only if the other tests were directing towards a Gasrto-enterological ( G.I) problem. What about the simple lab tests and Ultrasonography of the abdomen? Did anything point towards having a G.I issue? Why was Endoscopy done? Abdominal pain can be a referred pain from other areas of the chest and not mainly from the Stomach – which the Endoscopy was being done for!!

Pain medication can only control pain to a certain extend. But, question need to ask is “why waa s he having pain that cannot be controlled with even multiple doses of pain medications’? This certainly NOT normal.

Did anyone look in to serial Cardiac Enzymes ( When admitted to test for heart attack) , especially when he had “non-specific pain” , radiating from abdomen to shoulders and back? ECG might NOT show any abnormalities in many patients, even with pain ( Silent MI or non- ST elevation MI) . A CAT Scan of the abdomen would have been a better test to rule out aneurysms, pericardial effusion etc. At times a simple chest and abdominal X’ray can direct to the right path as well. Pericardial effusion can be a consequence of having had a heart attack in the recent days – still this cannot kill anyone if it was a gradually developed collection.

No one should die of a ” Cardiac arrest, especially with NO prior history of cardiac problem” , especially while having an Endoscopy done. Was an autopsy done postmortom? ( I guess the diagnosis of Viral myocarditis came from that??? only with a Cardiac biopsy. There is no other evidence to state the cause of death as such. Or did they ‘shoot in the dark’ with a fancy diagnosis? ) Would anyone know what exactly happened in the Endoscopy lab? Who was the chief Dr? What type of Cardiac arrest was it? – what did the medical notes say? Was it Ventricular fibrillation ( If so, why defibrillation ( Shock) was not used?) What were the details? ECG with no pulse or with pulse?

So many questions are unanswered. “Medical negligence” in one word will suffice all. A bunch of health professionals who do not care about human life in general. Perhaps they do not know much either – to think globally and find out the real problem the patient is presenting with, not just having a narrowed or tunnel vision of the medical condition. It is hard to find answers in India and medical notes and records can be falsified too.!! A young man should never have required an Endoscopy( not when he has other problems like Chest pain) that killed him…!! And generally speaking… does anyone check if the hospital has emergency response team, do they know what to do and how many department has Cardiac Arrest carts available?? And above all… does anyone care there? Where is this hospital?

I pray for the soul and his young family. Truly, you have better medical doctors there, who remembers their code of ethics that they promised in public once, and care for patients who are under their clinical judgement

According to the Gastro specialist who was treating him, he didnt even start the procedure bu the patient had cardiac arrest.

      Who was the chief Dr?
No chief doctor. Only the gasto was preparing him for the endo.

What type of Cardiac arrest was it?
Acc to the Death summary, it is Viral myopericarditis.
      – what did the medical notes say? Was it Ventricular fibrillation ( If so, why defibrillation ( Shock) was not used?) What were the details? ECG with no pulse or with pulse?
Have attached all the medical investigations and death summary in a separate blog post. Here is the link – https://whathappenedtoptsrini.wordpress.com/2012/11/12/medical-investigation-reports/

My Deepest condolence to the family.

Malar hospital is infamous for such incidents and please avoid going to this hospital. As someone mentioned above, the doctor profession was miss used to make money. There is no service minded doctors available in the earth. Everyone is behind money and inexperienced doctors are given to play with Human body.

While I going through the details mentioned here, I could see many symptoms PT had are mostly related to heart (like shoulder pain, sweating in cold climate, restless ness, etc.). The biggest question here is that no cardio related doctors examined PT from November 1 to end. He was treated for pain, he was treated for gastro, and He was treated with fluid for stamina and preparing him for endoscopy. But None these says what is done to identify what exactly the issue with PT. The worst is that even after the ECG shows abnormality it is neglected. That is the starting point of failure. May be PT was speaking and walking the case seems to be not a serious one for them which made them to wait till Nov 3rd. But for a small regular endoscopy waiting for 3 days is too much. Also I did not see any comment mentioning about echo test been done which is supposed to be done once ECG is seen not well. As someone mentioned above, if most of the patients will have abnormal ECG, then Echo will help to identify the actual reason.

Hi Senthil, Appreciate you sharing the sequence of events that unfolded in such a detailed manner.. I will try to share it with some of my friends in the medical field and get response. I would also strongly suggest to take it up with the hospital if we have not done it so far…Once again my deepest condolences to his family. May God give them strength to handle the situation. Please pass on my deepeset condolence to the family. To see a young man holding to his twins so cheerfully and think he is not alive today and that too becoz of negligence of some medical and paramedical professional is heart breaking.

A few observations that i made out is,

    A) When the patient complained of pain in the shoulder and profuse sweating, why was he not attended to immediately? There are many blood tests – Cardiac enzymes ( CK, CKMB, Troponin T, Troponin I) which could have given a conclusive result if he was heading to a cardiac arrest.

    B) Why was the patient given so many pain killers? Is it not the duty of the medical professional to find out the cause of the pain and treat instead of subsiding his pain?

    C) The patient was seen by the Gastro enterologist on the morning of 2nd November and was planned for CT Abdomen, why was it not done at all?

    D) The patient was seen by a Nephrologist on 2nd november and he has advised for a creatinine and C3 and C4, why were these complement factors not perfomed( C3 and C4)???

    E) How did the doctors conclude that he died due to viral infection, did they ever perform any test to arrive at the conclusion?? If they have ever thought that by mentioning some unknown medical jargons they can convince the patients relatives, then this should be viewed seriously, i suggest you please take a medico legal opinion and sue the hospital for their negligence.

    F) A 35 year young man who has walked into the hospital with pain, has been packed and sent out as a dead body, this itself shows that proper attention and care was not given, or how else would one explain a patient being admitted and being in the hospital for close to 2 days and not being monitered and provided the best of the medical facility to ensure that he survives the scare and walks out completely cured.

    G) Would any of the medical team that attended to Mr.Srinivas give the same treatment and attention if it was their kith and kin instead of Mr.Srinivas??

There r questions that need to be answered, it may take time, but “TRUTH WILL WIN”

How long does a test report take to find out this viral infection? How did the hospital conclude after the death that PT had this infection.. at no point during his admission was this even mentioned…..

The problem with all patients and most doctors is their heavy reliance on diagnostic test reports. They must realise that no diagnostic test in this world is 100% sensitive or 100% specific or both which means that a dignostic test may not be able to detect a disease sometimes even if a patient has the disease and sometimes it may come up as a positive test even though the patient do not have that disease. The diagnostic test reports can only be understood approporiately in the clinical context in which they were ordered. We can undestand the clinical context in which these tests were ordered only if we can get the case sheet from the hospital which treated this person. Even then we cannot guarantee that we know the real causes of death of this unfortunate person.

It is a case of utter negligence and Malar is very famous for this. I have heard so many such cases including a case of a 2.5 year old infant in our family that was declared dead due to sudden cardiac arrest with no particular background. What painkillers were given? Were they very strong muscle relaxants to relieve stomach cramps? They could have affected the heart, which is a muscle by itself, thereby hindering its pumping action. This could be a reason why resuscitation failed too. Of course this needs to be fought out but no matter what we will never get back our beloved PT… …

Hi..Iam Lakshmi Swaminathan here. Iam 38 years old, single want to share my experience here. I had severe abdominal pain on Feb 14th 2012 tuesday . I took pain killers myself and tried to sustain for 2 days after which it became intolerable. I went to Fortis here in Bangalore – And I was diagnosed as Stress related abdominal pain and was given pain killers. Then I tried to bear it for one more day and I could not. Again went the next day and begged to take a Scan. I went on Saturday morning and the doctor agreed. The beauty was the Radiologist was on leave and only 1 radiologist was there in the famous Fortis hospital on Bangalore and they asked me to come on Tuesday. and that was 21st ..Almost it would have been a week . I could not bear the pain, took the prescription and went to another gynaecologist. She took an ultrasound and said it was suspected to be Appendicitis but still was not clear because of Fluid accumulation in the abdomen. I waited for few days, could not bear the pain and went to another hospital called Green View and then again had an ultrasound and the doctor gastroenterologist said it could be anything but can say only if the fluid subsided. It was 21st already. 1 week in tremendous pain. I again took a 4th opinion and went to Manipal and had an Ultrasound and CT Scan . By this time i had totally starved for 10 days and I was immediately hospitalized for total dedyhdration. There were three Ultrasounds, 1 CT and they suspected it to be Appendicitis and prepared me for an appendectomy. My mother is a doctor and she was with my sister in USA. Believe it or not, I am not married and I handled all this myself..Struggling with pain. Now it was two days over at Manipal and it was 24th. I was prepared for the surgery and the last CT Scan was taken and they said it is not APPENDICITIS..Wow…They said they need more time to observe.. I waited in pain for from 24th till 2nd…..I was being observed until 2nd March..running on Pain killers all the time..FINALLY came back UNDIAGNOSED after 20 days on March 4th.. The pain left by itself.. I was on so many drugs…I dont know for what they treated… I still get shivers when I think of this..I had met Physician, Gynaecologist, Gastroenterologist, and finally two surgeons . They sent me Undiagnosed back. I dont know how I came out alive…So, I just want to tell that, There are many times, we think doctors can do things, but they dont…They were actually hesitant to even write anything on the Discharge summary…They said WE ARE NOT SURE OF THE DIAGNOSIS.

Please dont leave this…Try to bring justice to Srinivasans family…We owe it to them

    Lakshmi,

Thanks for sharing. And glad to know that you are ok now. Yes, these days doctors mostly rely on tests and cannot solve problems themselves alone. We are preparing the documentation so that the case is convincing. Thanks for your support.

Its very clear Fortis Malar hospital did not treat and diagnose well. Pls. make sure you folks sue them so that no hospital will behave like this never ever.

Also, though I am not a doctor, I have gone thru all his blood and urine test reports. PT’s Creatinine level was more and blood/protein too was found in his urine. This shows he had possible Kidney/Urinary track infection. But Malar didn’t even try to attend this issue.

It’s pretty clear that everyone in Fortis Malar were so negligent. Pls. sue them and get hefty compensation so secure the future of PT’s wife and kids. This will also make the hospital, doctors and nurses more responsible in future
